But its many qualities don't exempt it from regular maintenance. If you want your gold pieces to retain all their brilliance and shine, you need to take care of them. We're sharing our best tips for cleaning your gold jewelry.

Rub with a soft cloth

The first step to caring for your gold-filled pieces is to rub them regularly with a soft cloth. Choose a chamois cloth, cotton, or microfiber fabric so as not to damage the metal. This simple and quick habit will help you maintain the shine of your jewelry or restore its brilliance.

Clean your gold jewelry with warm soapy water

To clean your gold-filled jewelry, water and soap will be very effective. Mix warm water with Marseille soap or dish soap. Let your accessories soak for several hours; gold-filled items are not afraid of water. Afterwards, rub them gently with a soft-bristled brush. You can then rinse your jewelry with lukewarm water and dry it with a soft cloth.

However, if your jewelry is set with natural stones, do not soak them. Minerals could be permanently damaged. Clean them gently with a soft-bristled brush moistened with soapy water. Then dry them immediately with a soft cloth.

Brush accessories with toothpaste

Another effective and economical tip for cleaning your gold-filled pieces is to use toothpaste. Take an old, pre-moistened, soft-bristled toothbrush and gently rub the jewelry. Then, rinse it with water and dry it with a soft cloth. Your jewelry will be like new!

Use specific cleaning products

There are specific cleaning products for gold accessories available commercially. For example, you can find the brand Heli or Hagerty. You can also buy a cleaning kit from a jeweler. Strictly follow the instructions and rinse your jewelry thoroughly after use.

However, do not use this type of product if your jewelry is set with gemstones (amber, freshwater pearls, coral, etc.); they are corrosive and could damage the stone. Also, do not clean your gold jewelry with products intended for silver accessories. These two metals have different properties; your gold pieces could be degraded.
