How to Keep Your Jewelry Sparkling All Summer Long

In summer, we never take our jewelry off. We take it to the beach, we wear it to sleep, to dance, to swim... But what we often forget is that the warm season puts our accessories to the test. Sand, sunscreen, salt water: all elements that can dull their shine. At Camille Colette, we share our 5 simple tips (tested and approved!) to care for your jewelry in summer.

Tip #1: Clean them regularly

This is basic, no matter the season. But it's even more true in summer. Sweat, sand, seawater, sunscreen... your jewelry faces many elements that weaken it.

Regular cleaning remains the most effective way to preserve their shine. Adapt the cleaning technique to the material of your jewelry (some should not be soaked). Generally, washing with warm soapy water followed by drying with a soft cloth is enough to restore their brilliance.

Tip #2: Limit contact with water

14-karat gold-filled jewelry, as well as those adorned with natural stones or mother-of-pearl, are designed to last but remain sensitive to certain elements. Gold-filled jewelry resists occasional contact with clear water well. However, frequent exposure (shower, pool, sea) can alter the metal's shine in the long term.

Natural stones and mother-of-pearl, on the other hand, are living materials, more porous and fragile: they can tarnish, crack, or lose their brilliance with repeated contact with water, salt, or limescale.

To preserve the beauty of your jewelry, it is therefore advisable to remove it before any immersion and to store it away from humidity.

Tip #3: Avoid sunscreen

We can't say it enough: sunscreen is essential. But its components, whether chemical or mineral, can stain or alter your jewelry.

Of course, there's no question of skipping protection. Just remove your jewelry before applying your cream, then clean it at the end of the day to remove residues.

Tip #4: Remove your accessories for certain activities

Summer is synonymous with adventures: climbing, paddleboarding, beach volleyball, diving... all activities where your jewelry could get scratched, deformed, broken, or disappear forever at the bottom of the ocean (yes, that's personal experience, but that's not the point!).

The right reflex: remove them before moving, and store them in a safe place during the activity.

Tip #5: Store your jewelry properly

This tip applies all year round, but even more so in summer when you're often on the go. To avoid scratches and shocks, store your jewelry in a compartmentalized box or a soft pouch.

On vacation, slip this pouch into a compartment of your bag. This way, even during a road trip or after an impromptu swim, your jewelry will be protected. You will always find them in perfect condition.
